"W" Clothing

One goal of every fat chick on a diet is to shop for clothes in sizes that don't end in an X. It is also common for many of us to hold off on buying new clothes, until we can buy something in a much smaller size. In the meantime, we're wearing hide-everything tent dresses, or baggy pants.

You don't need to buy a whole new wardrobe every time you drop a size. Who can afford that? Some clothes will still work if you go down a size, but it's still a good idea to buy a few new transition pieces every now and then. Choose items that can be taken in as you lose, such as A-line skirts, or pants with elastic waists. If cost is a factor, considering buying from a used clothing consignment store, or eBay. Many sell designer labels at a fraction of the price. You can also sell your "fat" clothes as you go, and use the money to buy clothes that fit.

A few reasons to buy clothes that fit while you are losing weight:

  • Baggy clothes can make you look heavier than you are
  • New clothes make you feel better about yourself
  • The accomplishment of going down another size is a great motivator to stick with your diet
When shopping for plus size clothes online, always make sure you check out the size chart. Sizes can vary between manufacturers. In fact, a recent trend has been the downsizing of clothing, to attract new customers. If you could fit into a size 14 from one manfacturer, or a size 16 or 18 from another manufacturer, which would you choose? They assume the numbers matter, so it's tricks like these that draw in more customers. If you are shopping locally, make sure you try on your clothes before buying. If you are buying online, always check their size charts and have a tape measure handy. Check the size chart linked at left, for general measuring guidelines.
