Here We Go Again!

Well, it is a new year and a new day and we can all begin again. Me?  I am thankful for new beginnings.  It gives me the chance to begin again and resolve to do better.  It is a new year and I am in a new place with a new job.  Benefits make all the difference in good health.  The ability to go to a doctor and not worry so much about how the bill will be paid is a miraculous thing.  I am grateful.

So this January I will begin again.  I have some of my coworkers for inspiration.  They are all hitting the gym of talking about diets. I even have a few marathon runners who sit near me in my office, so I would love to somehow with my bad knees run again.  We shall see.  I think the first thing is to just begin to walk.  Even that is a strain now as I have been so sedentary for this past year.  But that will be changing.

As I sit hear typing this at Starbucks, I know visits here will need to be curtailed.  You just don't know how much I love the casualness of a coffee shop for coffee and a scone.  the scones.  I am having a raspberry orange scone now.  I know that eating will also need to be something I need to review.  Every bite needs to be scrutinized and monitored.

I want this to be a year of change and it has to begin with me.

Today's Food

Today was a pretty good day as far as diet goes.  Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, an apple and a glass of water.  Well believe me when lunch time came I was famished.  I had some leftovers and made a meatloaf sandwich.  A little mayo...yes, that is fat...but it was a little.  I am not a fan of mayo.  Two slices of tomato and a slice of cheese.  Water.

Not bad. This evening I had a wedding to attend so there I ate the most food of the day. That should be reversed to help me.  The biggest meal of the day should be eaten early in the day.  Well, the food was good.  Starters consisted of asparagus, cheeses, spinach dip and smoked salmon on crackers.  Yum! I did have two cups of sangria..not good.  But it was a wedding.  The main course was corned beef, crab cakes, green beans, mashed sweet potatoes and lots of tea.

Next week  I will be starting to juice and that will be the meal.  I have got to make a food change.  We are what we eat.  I am all ready for beet, carrot and apple juice to replace a meal.

A Little Better

Well I have been uffering with IBS bouts for the last 3 months. Finally it is getting a little better. I have been doing all I can to reduce stress, eat more fiber, be more active and heal. It just takess time. This is my wake up call. I can't see having this chronically. I have to get healthier and stay that way. It is all about changing your lifestyle. Not a diet.

The Fat Medusa

There is a girl who I work with who is extremely obese. I know she weighs over 300 pounds. Maybe even 350. Happy as can be. Ghetto as can be. Today she came in with her weave looking like something only Medusa could love. Some crazy braids sticking up all over her head like something I have never seen before. It was so extreme that we all had to say something to her, both white and black employees. She looked scary! She did go to the bathroom and try to do something with it. That hair coupled with the skin tight knit pants she always wears with too tight Baby Phat tops.....can we say tore up from the floor up?!!!

Well, for the past 6 months I have been trying to get her to eat better. Not to eat so much fried, greasy foods. She has resisted most things I have brought in for her to eat. I have been bringing enough salads and fruits for 2 and offering things to her. She turns her nose up at most. I have even encouraged her to walk. Nothing on her end. I have talked to her about low carb eating. She did do that for about 2 days. She is not ready to make any sort of change in her lifestyle right now, so I think I will give up trying. I will put the focus on me. Maybe if she sees me consistently loosing, she may take an interest in herself.

Her eating habits are deplorable. She eats too fast and puts way too much in her mouth. It is gross to eat around her. Then after eating she spends most of the afternoon burping and belching very loudly. I thank God I do not have to share an office with her. As soon as any kind of food smell eminates from the breakroom, she is literally running from her cubby to see what kind of food someone else has. Then she begs for it. Only the unhealthy things. A vegetable will kill her!

I realize that you cannot get others to diet or make changes unless they want to. You can only encourage but if they do not want to do it, they will not.
