Wasa Crispbread

I was walking down the aisles looking for something to eat that was not bread, full of calories and starch . I saw the wasa crispbread. I have not eaten any of this in about 10 years. I love it and had forgotten all about it. I bought three containers of plain low fat yogurt to eat with it. Yum! How flavorful is that? I had a piece for lunch today with some of the pasta salad below. It was good.

What is it about Wasa that makes it so good?

Wasabröd crisp bread is baked in Filipstad in Sweden, Celle in Germany and Hamar in Norway.

When people started making crisp bread several hundred years ago, it was mainly for practical reasons. It was normal to do a huge baking once or twice a year in connection with the grain harvest. It required bread with a long shelf-life and which allowed the grain to be stored over a long period of time.

This type of hard and dry bread was known as crisp bread and was baked in large round cakes. The hole in the middle was added to make storage easier, with the bread being threaded onto long rods and suspended below the ceiling.

The basic recipe remains the same today. Rye, yeast, salt and water. But over the years, new varieties and flavours have been developed and launched. The baking technique has been modernised, too. Industrial methods are used to mix the ingredients and to knead and raise the dough, as well as to shape, bake and dry the bread.
Crisp bread is still very popular, and new varieties have improved its image.

Light cushioned, extra thin, round and breakable crisp bread has found a place in the heart of many.

Crisp bread can be eaten with most dishes and as a light snack. It is a tasty, healthy and wholesome bread which you can eat everyday to all meals.

Carpe Diem!

That is what I did this morning. I got up and had my standard beet, carrot and apple juice blend. I then had my cranberry juice adn wheat grass and I was good to go. After that I walked 30 minutes. See, carpe diem! I started the day off right. Now I feel very hungry! I am tempted to eat something sweet, but am electing to stay away.

I did have a mountain dew code red. I needed the caffeine and sugar this morning. Now I am tired and hungry. I plan to walk again the same route this evening. If I can get an hour in of walking each day, that would be a good thing! I got on the scale and I am maintaining. I have not gained anything thank god and I am still at the 6 pounds less that I was the last time I got on the scale.

Fried Eggplant

Here is a quick and easy recipe for Fried Eggplant. I will be making some of this today.

6 Small, Firm Eggplants (About 4-5 Inches In Length)

1 Cup Olive Oil

2 Cloves Garlic, Minced

5 Tablespoons Finely Chopped Fresh Mint Leaves

2 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar

Salt And Pepper To Taste

Cut the eggplants into wedges, about 1 and 1/2 inches wide, leaving the skin on. Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan, and once hot, drop in four or five of the wedges. Cook until soft and brown, turning over once during the cooking period. Once cooked, place on a plate covered with paper towels to drain. Continue cooking the remaining eggplant wedges in this manner.

Once all the the wedges have been cooked, place them in an attractive manner on a serving plate. Sprinkle with the balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, salt and pepper and mint. Serve at room temperature.

Multilayered Security

I have not had any sort of virus actually attack my computer in any way that has caused any problems. Knock on wood. I have had a firewall in place or I have had scheduled scans. The most that I have found is adware. Seems like that just comes from everywhere.

After reading about NOD32, a layered security system comprised of anti virus, firewalls, anti adwared and exploits is the best way to keep your systems safe. No one product can provide all the protection that you need. The staff at Software Security Solutions will evaluate your systems and recommend a security solution based on your needs. The need for ample security is very critical with DSL and cable modems. All sorts of critters can get in easily. To get started there is even a free security test you can take to assess what you may need.

If your data is not secure, then it is not really your data. Why take that chance. We can't. Not with all the cases of stolen identity and wiping out of bank accounts out there. Make the right choice for your security system. Consider NOD32. They are there to support, protect and keep their customers updated on the most current security solutions.

A Prayer for Dieters

To be slender is my goal,
I shall not eat.
Yea, tho I trudge through
the valley of fat I shall not fear
for mine is the path
of diet cola and cottage cheese.
Tho hot fudge sundaes and french pastries
beckon, I shall not falter!
Tho I suffer the slings and arrows
of outrageous friends who order sauces
and creams, I will remain strong,
as the thought of my new self
comforts me always.
Surely double chins and chubby cheeks
shall melt away
and I will dwell in the house
of the thin
FOREVER!!
Amen

Quote of the Day

Quote of the day:
Use what your momma gave you, before father time takes it away!

I think this quote is even more true the older we get.
This had hit me like a revelation today.
I need to get it together as prime time is getting shorter.
Work it while you can!

6 Less

I got on the scale this morning and I have lost 6 pounds. I can tell that some of my clothes are just a little looser and I even had one of my friends at church tell me that it looked like I was loosing weight. Thank God for a little positive reinforcement! I am doing the happy dance! six is a big thing. I had not thought I had lost any so it was a nice suprise to see the needle not where it normally has been. I even had to check the needle on the scale to be sure it was on "zero" and not off the mark. I have one of the ones with a needle.. not the new digital ones. It was good news! I am encourgaged.!

The 22lb Croaker

Yup. Let me tell you about the time I caught my 22lb croaker. It was a bright sunny afternoon and I was in the same pond that I have fished for the past 10 years. It was the same one my daddy used to fish in. He lived his whole life trying to catch that croaker. We called her Bessie. She was a big old' heffer of a croaker. Well, all that morning I had only caught turtle. Turtle after turtle after turtle. They were forever taking Bessie's bait. I knew that I was going to wear her out that day. She was throwing up turtles to throw me off.

I was on my game and so was Raymarine . A buddy of mine came by and he said he was trying to catch my croaker too. Well he looked like he had just bought out the store. He had gadgets and gizmos and all sorts of things. I asked what all he had. He was a city fella and said that the only way to get that 20lb croaker was the citified, scientific way. He looked at my cane pole and I looked at his rod with the fancy dancy reel.

He pulled out a compass. He pulled out a chart plotter. He pulled out a depth finder and a radar. He informed me he would find old Bessie in just a little bit. He even pulled out a GSP. I asked him if he picked out all that stuff. He said no. The great staff at Raymarine helped him and even sold some of those things at a discount price. I just looked. He worked his gadgets and gizmos. I tried to peek over at the names on all that stuff. I saw names like Astron, Garmin and Standard Horizon. Yep. They was good products. Good quality stuff from good companies.

I began to wonder if he would catch old Bessie before me. But just for a moment. Ole Bessie don't know nothing about them gizmo's. She only knows what is at the end of a hook. I had several nibbles, caught a few more turtles. So did that city fella. He caught some turtle too. All of a sudden his line got tight like something big was on it. He looked at his radar and said he had a big one. Could it be Bessie, My croaker...the croaker my daddy tried all his life to catch? It was. She jumped into the air and snapped his line. Back into the depths she went. But my line was ready. I felt a nibble, then a bite, then a big hit. I had her. That croaker was mine! After a 30 minute fight , I wore her out and hauled her into shore. I had my croaker and I know my daddy was proud.

Old cityboy congratulated me on my catch. I thanked him. I looked at all his gadgets and thought there might be something to that. In the course of the day he had told me it was his first time fishing for her and he had found Bessie and almost caught her in a day. I had been searching for her for 10 years. He packed up his stuff and went home. I packed up my cane pole and got in my truck and headed home. I needed to check out Raymarine. Surely they would have useful items not just for the man who is fishing just on the weekends. They would have items for me who had been angling my whole life. I could surely benefit from using some quality gadgets as well.

Ipulled up the site and dicovered all sorts of things and not just for fishing! They even have things for hunting and camping. They took plastic and told me that if I even had any problems to call as they wanted to be sure that using their site was easy. I must say that fishing does not have to be as hard as it is. Raymarine can make things just a little easier. They have a goal to make fishing fun!

Juicer in Action

Today you get to see my Jack Lalane Power Juicer in action. For breakfast the juice was carrot, beet and apple. The specific recipe is 1 beet, 3 carrots and 1 apple. Juice. Drink and Enjoy!

Here I am about to get started.
I have all my ingredients and juicer ready!

I began with the carrots. There is an order for juicing.
It is best to juice the softer fruits first and then the
harder ones to move the softer ones through.

You can see here, I have just
begun to juice the first piece of raw beet.

Here is the finished product.
A breakfast of champions!

Juice: It Does a Body Good -- again!

Can I say that enough. I have been giving my Jack Lalane Power juicer a workout everyday. I have officially replaced breakfast with juice. No more solid food for breakfast anymore. I feel so much better. I have slowed down on the wheat grass for now. I have stepped up the aloe vera juice. Today for breakfast I had 1/2 cataloup, 2 carrots and an apple juiced! YUMMY!

I was in the organic food store on yesterday and I saw Noni juice. Now I know there is all sorts of excitement about that. I really don't know too much about it yet. I will have to do some research. It cots about $20.00 a bottle here everytime I have seem it. First of all what is a noni? I think I will start with that first!

Education is Key!

With exercise and eating the right foods, you have to really make an effort to change bad habits. Education is a part of that. You have to get information to make a difference in your life. To eat the right way so that your future will change. One of the ways to also do that is with a formal education. Nowadays there is a way to do that from the ease of your home. That is with an online degree program from Capella University.

They have five main programs to choose from with special areas of interests to choose from. One specifically is the Health Care Administration Course. When I graduated from college I had a double major with an area of interest in gerontology. The health care administrative course is what I would be interested in if I were going back to get my masters.

The capability to be able to work and study when it would be convenient for me would be a wonderful thing. I would be able to log on at any time day or night and download class materials and do course work. If you are considering it, you may want to go through the sample online seminar. It is for a week and it is totally free! E-learning is the way to go these days. Employers from major companies are really looking for employees who are bringing a full load to the table. In the environment we have today the competition is stiff. Be sure you have all the chips you need to ensure a bright career and a successful financial future.

Be sure to check out all that Capella has to offer. It is an accredited school devoted to providing learning in an environment of academic excellence.

The Best Life Diet

I have been hearing alot about the "Oprah Diet" and have decided to at least see if I can check the book out from the library to see what it is all about. There is also a companion workbook. You know if Oprah is doing it, it must be good! She does look good. According to what I have read...the book is divided into three phases, The Best Life Diet gives you the tools you need to change your life. In each phase, you'll be asked to reexamine the decisions you make on a daily basis and gradually alter your habits to achieve lasting results. The book also includes easy-to-follow meal plans that make it simple to meet your daily energy and nutrient requirements, whether you are on the run and breakfast means a quick smoothie or you have time to shop for fresh produce and make something special.

Shopping and Saving!

Normally I love to shop. I went to the outlet mall this past weekend and saw lots of cute things in sizes that are slightly smaller than what I am now. Depression! I am determined not to spend anymore money on clothes that are the size I am now. No more. I have lots of clothes in my closet that are smaller sizes that I never got rid of. My hope is to get back into them. I am slowly doing that. With summer soon to be here I may need to buy a swim suit that will fit. The one I had I just threw out. It was about 5 years old and the chlorine had faded it out. It needed to go.

Now if you are a shopaholic like me you will also be all about the coupon codes that will save you money! I love that. Right now because I am not at my ideal weight I would need to shop at Lane Bryant to get a suit that would look decent. No sausage rolls for me in a suit that is too small. I see this suit as a short term investment so any savings I could get on it would be fantastic. Right now they are having a spring sale and the swimwear has just come in! So I will be checking them out and using the online coupons.

Specifically, Lane Bryant is one of the many stores to choose from that has sales and coupons for your benefit. Right now they are having some great deals. Just added today they are having $20 off on orders of $60 or more. Mother's Day is right around the corner with 20% off on Mother's Day gifts. In addition there are also internet only specials that you will not find in the stores. Be sure to check out those Lane Bryant coupon deals!

Now that is just one store at CouponChief. There are over 1,000 stores to shop at and there are wonderful coupons for all of them. Some have coupons you can print, others have coupon codes to use at the check out page. Shopping at the site is easy as you can find stores by name or by catagory of items you are shopping for. Shopping and saving could not be easier. They have recenly made it easier to scan coupons and have added in helpful how-to screens for some of the top merchants like Amazon, Best Buy, and Gap. So get out the plastic, get your coupon and save a little when you shop. It will be worth it!

Fooling Yourself

There is a woman that I know who is totally osbessed with weight. Hers, others and it is talk, talk, talk. She is always talking about how big someones butt looks and how much food people have on their plates and on and on. She is always talking about calories and sodium and looking at labels for herself. I gets old and wears on my nerves.

Yet, she is alwasy eating candy, chocolate, brownies, trail mix with candy in it, icecream, frozen yougurt fooling herself that it has less calories than icecream. It is a joke. She is always talking about wanting to loose weight but she is constantly eating. Eating and eating. She is only fooling herself. I have begun to tell her that she is only eating junk food and that she eats too much of it. Nothing is ever said about that. She complains about how she looks in her clothes. I tell her to stop eating the cake and brownies. Nothing happens.

My thing is , eat if you are going to eat. But don't talk about how much everyone else has or is eating when you are eating more all day than anyone else. Don't walk around the grocery store reading calories on labels with a cart full of cookies and icecream and yougurt or trail mix that is 50% m&M's. It gets on my nerves. It is tiring to hear it over and over. Stop fooling yourself into thinking you are going to loose weight eating like that. Or fit into your clothes. I just get sick of hearing it.

Is It Media or Is It Viral?

The phenomena of social media is taking over the blogosphere. The world even. It is a new way of doing things. There is a new sheriff in town with the concept of social media. In many ways I think it is viral. With Youtube and some of the other sites out there, the world seems to catch on and view, post, blogg about, meme, link and promote the item of the day....whatever it is. A video, a link, a post, a news story, a google bomb. Even Good Morning America features a segment on popular Youtube videos that are circulating the web.

Community has taken on a new form. It is not the old networking of the 1980's and 90's to move ahead or even word of mouth. The internet has given community new life. It is all about reching out and clicking someone. After reading the post by Byrtopian I do agree with the characteristics that are listed as some main ones. With the ever changing evolving of the internet, they may be subject to change in the future, but they are a good place to start. The site lists them as:
  • Participation
  • Openness, transparency and disclosure
  • Conversation
  • Community Driven
  • Facilitation (facilitating conversations that are already happening online)

The site does actually go on to explain the 5 distinct characteristics of social media. He has some good points. I know that marketing today and even the presidential campaigning involves the web. Check out the site and read what the points are. The face of media today has changed and I believe it is a work in progress. It must be a hot topic. Bloggers and marketers have been talking about the definition of social media, and whether or not it should be called something different. Come on, jump in. Is It Media or Is It Viral?
