Can we say slackard?

Yeah that has been me over the weekend. I had great intentions but none of them came to fruition. I had planned to go the gym Saturday and Sunday but never made it. For one, I stayed up too late blogging and was just too tired to work out. I think that blogging can take over my life at times. Or at least all my free time. I love to blog and read blogs and change my blogs.

Blog , blog , blog. It is all about the blog. Like right now it is very late but I should be carving the pumpkin for my the office. We are having a contest. I will have to get up extra early to do that...or at least get the filling out.

I have to get back in the grove. Food is still good. Salads, cottge cheese and plain yogurt. Bland and very boring.

The Week in Review

Well this week was going very well until yesterday. the entire week had been a week of salads, boiled eggs, tuna, salmon, just veggies and soup. Yesterday the office food took over. First there was a stand up meeting in the am and I had the wonderfule, soft, warm, sweet Krispy Kreme donut. Just one. I had already eaten 10 baby carrots for breakfast.

I had no time for lunch due to deadlines so lunch was a bag of Fritos from the snack machine and a Dr. Pepper. This was around 2pm...way past the normal lunch hour. Then we had a unit birthday. So there was a slice of chocolate cake inteh breakroom with the other unit members. Well... today is a new day and I am so glad yesterday is over. I had no dinner to not add any more calories to that donut and chocolate cake

Today will start with boiled eggs and cottage cheese for breakfast as well as a trip to the gym later today to work out. If you fall off the horse, get right back up and ride again. And I must say I felt totally different after that food on yesterday. Bloated..not so much bloated but just full inside.

The Master Cleanser

June 16, 1991, marked the passing of Stanley Burroughs, a pioneer in the field of alternative health care. Author of Healing for the Age of Enlightenment, and The Master Cleanser, Stanley was a man renowned for his research into the role of toxemia in disease.
This program involved the Lemonade Diet, developed by Burroughs in 1941. It initially came about in response to his need to find a better method to treat ulcers, and it was some years later that he realized that this diet treated many other diseases successfully, and he named it the Master Cleanser.

Specific Procedures
The Master Cleanser is a liquid mono-diet that cleanses and detoxifies the body as it stimulates healthy tissue growth. It consists of fresh lime or lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper mixed with water and drunk 6-12 times a day. A herbal laxative tea is taken twice a day, and no other food is consumed.

This regimen that can be followed for 10 days, and may also be safely extended to 40 or more days, depending upon a persons physical condition.

Toxemia and Disease
To understand why this therapeutic diet works its necessary to understand what disease is from a holistic perspective. Dis-ease is simply the accumulation of wastes, toxins, or poisons in the body, which in turn creates the myriad of symptomatic illnesses we are seeing so prevalent in people to day.

The glands and organs of our eliminative systems can easily become overwhelmed by wastes from poor diet, lack of exercise, tension, air and water pollution etc. As much as several pounds of waste can literally become impacted in the colon, adhering to the walls. Over time, the waste will then begin to leach into the blood stream. causing it to be re-circulated throughout the body, and settle into the tissues and cells. This settling of toxins is the final step that acts as a precursor to disease because its constant presence weakens the cells and eventually the entire immune system.It stands to reason, then, that cleansing the body of this accumulated waste serves to rejuvenate the innate healing mechanisms of the body. so that they can function at optimal capacity to restore health and vitality, the less toxicity that is present in the body, the greater our vital force becomes.

Physiological Process
Because the act of digesting food consumes our energy on an ongoing basis, it follows that the elimination of solid food for short periods of time will make the energy normally used for digestion available for the process of detoxification. Thus the first step is to stop eating food so that the lemonade drink can commence Is work.

Because the lemonade drink is easily assimilated, it places little or no demand on the digestive system. Fresh squeezed lemon juice is a powerful cleanser for the body, and is also high in vitamins. Additionally, it is the only fruit or vegetable to contain cationic and anionic minerals. Lemon also helps loosen and break up mucus in the body.

Mucus is one of the body's defenses to protect it self against irritations. When too much mucus settles in any one area, dis-ease is the natural outcome.Those of you familiar with colour therapy will also know that lemon, when consumed fresh squeezed, releases the colour that stimulates the body to cleanse itself.Cayenne pepper, another key ingredient of the diet, breaks up this mucous and acts as a cleanser for the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. It is used by herbalists to treat a wide range of problems and to enhance the effectiveness of many other herbs.The maple syrup provides energy from an unprocessed sugar which still contains many of its original nutrients.

On the subject, the absence of minerals and vitamins in processed sugars makes the digestive system rob the body of these precious nutrient stores in order to metabolize the sugars. If too many processed foods are eaten, the pancreas seems to one of the first organs affected, often resulting in hypoglycemia and then further deterioration of the pancreas.

The herbal laxative tea is used to stimulate peristalsis of the colon, since the only other way to do it is to eat a diet high in fibre. The lemonade drink, or Master Cleanser, having no fibre, must use a laxative to remove the waste as it is being shed from the colon wall, otherwise it will stay in the body, leading to tiredness and any number of problems.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the diet that Robin Quivers went on and I have heard that others have had success with this. I know it is not so much a diet as a detoxifier which is what I want. The detox. I plan to buy the book and read it first to really see what it is all about.
The Rhythm of the Universe
Wow...today was 1 entire hour on the treadmill. I was in the zone. It helped that I had my mp3 player with me. I was listening to Roxanne by Sting and the Police and I just happened to look at the women on the treadmill in front of me and I noticed the strangest thing. Her butt jiggle and arm swings coincided exactly with the beat of Roxanne. Isn't that crazy! Then I noticed on other songs how other peoples motions doing other things also were in sync with my music. All things have a rhythm...the entire universe had a rhythm and at odd times I think we can all become aware of it.
Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, water and carrots. Lunch was a cup of left over pasta and turkey meat sauce from last night. Dinner was a plain spinach and spring green salad with 3 table spoons of peanut butter. And of course water. I feel light or at least my stomach feels lighter. No heavy meals and I can feel that difference. Heavy food is not just sitting in my stomach making me overly full.
Haunted by Cravings
Today started off well. Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, 1 small pink grapefruit and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Lunch was carrots and an apple-chicken spinach and spring green salad with balsamic vinegar. Good. Plus a glass of cranberry juice cocktail.
I slipped at dinner...I had pasta... I made angel hair pasta for dinner with ground turkey as the meat in the sauce. I had about 2 cups of pasta and more carrots. It was topped off with a glass of wine. A nice white zin made by the Biltmore Estates.
This all took place before 8 so I am golden in that respect. It is about 10:30 now and i am craving something...just a little something. I most likely will go ahve a few more raw baby carrots.. about 10. They are sweet and will make me thing I am eating something sweet. I think I will also go drink 2 big glasses of water. It is off to the gym tomorrow.
Carpe Diem!
Wow..off to a great start! Breakfast today was 10 baby carrots, 1/2 of cottage cheese, green tea and water. Lunch was a large spinach and lettuce salad with 1 chicken and sundried tomatoe sausage with balsamic vinegar dressing. And guess wat? More water!
I woke up today and thought I would have time to do a little exercise but I had a headache. 2 aleve helped. I will have to work out later today after dinner. So far so good but of course it is only day one.
I got on that bathroom scale this morning and cringed. 235. Dang! The only good thing about that number is that I am determined that that will be the highest it will ever register. We can only go down from here!
I also have a goal reaching article of clothing that I have to be able to get into when this is all over...a beautiful floral swimsuit. It is an attached bikini on one side. Cute as can be! I have it hanging on the back of the bedroom door so that I can see it at least once a day. Just like that woman in the yogurt commercials with the polka dotted bikini hanging on her living room wall.
No food after 8pm. That is the rule. With my schedule that has been the majority of the time when I eat...when I have time for myself after everything and eveybody else. I plan to stick to that like glue. No food after 8pm!
Today's Food
This morning I had 1/2 cup of raisin bran with 2% lowfat milk and 2 glasses of water. I was at my parents time share over the weekend so I got up right after eating and tried to go fishing. The knats were resistent to deep woods off and they ate me alive. After about 45 minutes I had to give it up and go in. I sprayed deep woods off on me and in the air to no avail. I caught no fish but I did catch a turtle. I had the hardest time getting him off the hook. I know turtles are edible but I could not imagine cracking open that shell to eat it. Back he went.
We drove the 1.5 hours back form the beach condo into the city and my parents and I went our separate ways. I came home and had more water about 1 glass and took a nap. We had stayed up late last night with that being our last night at the beach. For lunch I had 1 chicken and apple sausage. Yes...apples are packed with chicken inside a sausage. It is wonderful. I cannot remember the brand but they are some sort of gormet sausage you can only find at Costco. The same manufacturer makes it in 2 other stuffed flavors--chicken and sundried tomatoes and chicken and portabella mushrooms.
I cleaned up the house, contemplated this new blog and then went shopping. Carrots, tomatoes, grapefruit, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, pomegranate, spring salad fixings and fresh spinach for salads. And we are off to the races. I had a large grilled salmon salad for dinner.
Tomorrow I will begin to walk as well. Each day will be struggle for awhile. The snack machines will be calling my name at work. I will weigh once a month and take a picture so that I can see visual progess. I f I can get access to a scanner I will post. I know my parents have a scanner. I guess I will try to use theirs. Well off to bed. It is late.
10,000 Steps
How many steps do you walk each day? Maybe you have heard the guidelines about walking 10,000 steps per day.How far is 10,000, steps anyway? The average person's stride length is approximately 2.5 feet long. That means it takes just over 2000 steps to walk one mile, and 10,000 steps is close to 5 miles.If you are a sedentary person you may only average about 2000 to 3000 steps a day. Adding steps has many health benefits including weight control, improved blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and a decrease in the risk of cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease.A reasonable goal for most people is to increase average daily steps each week by 500 per day until you can easily average 10,000 per day. (Example: If you currently average 3000 daily steps your week one goal is 3500 each day. Week 2 goal is 4000 each day. Continue to increase each week and you should be averaging 10,000 steps by the end of 14 weeks.)Wearing a pedometer is an easy way to track your steps each day. Start by wearing the pedometer every day for one week. Put it on when you get up in the morning and wear it until bed time. Record your daily steps in a log or notebook. By the end of the week you will know your average daily steps. You might be surprised how many (or how few) steps you get in each day.There are many ways to increase your daily steps. Use your imagination and come up with your own list: Take a walk with your spouse, child, or friend Walk the dog Use the stairs instead of the elevator Park farther from the store Better yet, walk to the store Get up to change the channel (lose the remote or turn off the t.v.) Window shop Plan a walking meeting Walk over to visit a neighbor Get outside to walk around the garden or do a little weeding If you are in very poor physical condition or at any point you feel that you are progressing too rapidly slow down a bit and try smaller increases. If you have any health concerns seek your physician's advice prior to starting or changing your exercise routine.
